MyColor™ inspired by Pantone Painting Party: DIY Painted Ikat Gazelle Horns

 My Project: DIY Painted Ikat Gazelle Horns

These resin gazelle horns were damaged and collecting dust in my storage unit. I've always wanted to give them a makeover and when I was asked to be a part of this event, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to clean them up and give them new life! Read on for step-by-step instructions on how I completed this project. Enjoy!

1. I selected (3) colors from the MyColor Paint online store which were

Bruschetta, Blue Haze and Couldburst. (Please note, the Bruschetta color looks really orange in this photo but it's actually a really pretty red/coral shade, as you'll see below). Let me tell you, I LOVE this paint! It's rich and creamy and went on smoothly. It would be great to use on furniture as well. It's an acrylic paint with primer so you only need 1 - 2 coats.

2. After gluing a cracked horn, I dissembled everything and spray painted the plaque white. I'm loving Ikats right now and decided to do a freehand Ikat pattern for the background. I drew a pencil line down the center and then lightly mapped out the diamond shapes (freehand). I taped the edges with painters tape to make sure the paint didn't bleed onto the sides.

3. I brushed on a single coat of Blue Haze for the diamond pattern outline.

4. Then I added a coat of Bruschetta on the inside.

5. The final color I used was Couldburst, which I painted on the inside of the diamonds. I then went back through with bright white paint to clean up some messy edges. Obviously the pattern is imperfect and doesn't line up, which is exactly the loose hand-painted look I was going for!

 6. I then screwed the horns back on the plaque and voila! The gazelle horns have a brand new look that's fresh, modern and bright! I'm really happy with the way they turned out.
