A Dash of Black

I rarely consider using black accents in design projects that don't have black already incorporated in the color scheme...naturally I'll gravitate toward dark wood tones or charcoal gray if I need to create contrast. However, after spotting countless interiors with infused with a dash of black here or there, I'm beginning to change my mind! A touch of "unexpected" black can really add a punch of contrast to a space. Black is sophisticated and timeless, so you really can't go wrong incorporating it into your decor. Try introducing a little black into your home with a black lampshade, mirror, accent pillow, chair or accessory. If you're feeling extra bold, paint a black accent wall! Do you currently have any black accents in your home? ***Have a wonderful weekend and be sure to visit back on Monday for an exciting guest post with Sabina Vavra of Madison West Interiors. It's all about consistency in your brand, which I'm really excited to learn more about. xoxo - Julie

  8. I think black always adds punch to a space. I've been working on an industrial space with very tall ceilings. The floor is dark, the cabinets are dark the granite is dark...you get the picture. My impulse was to paint the ceiling white to lighten everything up a bit. We actually ended up playing with the color and decided that the ceiling looked best painted black. I am still asking myself why that was a better choice.

  10. Love how black shakes up a room and these are gorgeous examples! A little obsessed by black lampshades right now as well lol

I recently painted the wall in my bedroom black and I really love what it's done to the space.

  11. I always try and use a touch of black in a room. As you said, sometimes it is jut alampshade, picture frame or small accessory but it really anchors a space and allows the eye to "rest". Great pics

  13. I have to tell you I have not been a fan of the black accents but just finished a showhouse where I added black all around the space. It is really what ultimately made the room especially the black large dog.

  14. In every house I grew up in as a child, my mom made sure there was a black accented bathroom. The toilet, wall paint, and sink fixtures are all black. She usually decorated the rest with gold and a soft pink or other ultra-femme color. I love it and want to do the same in all the houses I have in the future! Great post :)
