I recently posted about the opening of the Jonathan Adler store at Fashion Island, which was great to be a part of!
WIN ME! Happy Chic - Accessorizing
"Express yourself! Whether you like surrounding yourself with chintz or chrome, Louis XIV or LeRoy Neiman, I want you to be yourself - and be happy."- Jonathan Adler. This little book is packed full of tips and advice on every aspect of accessorizing - scale, shape, color, content - you name it, it's covered. Tablescapes, consoles, shelves, mantles, bedscapes, art walls...all are areas we need to accessorize in our own homes but are often clueless on how to begin. JA gives step-by-step, easy breezy advice on what to do, with plenty of gorgeous visuals! There are even "workbook" pages for you to jot down notes.
OR...WIN ME! Happy Chic - Colors
"So many people shy away from using color in their homes for fear of getting it wrong...but ignorance and fear are no reason to live in a bland box. Beige is a bummer! Colorless is characterless!" - Jonathan Adler. Whether you love, hate or are afraid of color, this book will show you the ropes on how to embrace it and incorporate it into your decor tastefully! JA covers a different color in each chapter (Blue, Yellow, Green, Black & White, Red, etc.) offering insightful tips and plenty of inspiring images, along with Benjamin Moore paint color combination suggestions.
HOW DO YOU ENTER TO WIN?! Just leave a comment by answering this question, taken straight from the Happy Chic Accessories book: "What do you want your home to say about you?" The two best answers WIN!
DETAILS: I'm so sorry, but this giveaway is only open to US residents (you can still leave a comment if you'd like!). Each winner will win one copy of either Happy Chic Accessories or Colors and will be notified via email. Winners will be announced on Monday, November 8th. Good luck and thanks for participating :)
Look and see if JA is coming to your town on his book tour!

I want my house to say that I know what I like, that I'm not afraid of what people think, and that, yes, I'm a little crazy. I also want it to be warm and inviting, free of pretense, with a bit of spice and plenty of fun.
ReplyDeleteThese books look great! Thanks for doing this giveaway!
I want my home to be a place of happiness and quiet reflection, where anyone who visits can just take a break from life and hang out. I want there to be beautiful colors and relaxation.
ReplyDeletei want my home to express my many personalities- whether it's my girly side, my surfer side, the rock'n'roll chick that i am or the historian inside of me. in seeing all of these elements work together, one will truly be able to see inside my soul from the inside of my home.

ReplyDeletei'd love to have a home neat and clutter free.. with colour. i'm so done with the ZEN theme, and the natural palatte...i need colour and i need inspiration from these books!
I've thought about this question a lot as where I live I'm in the centre of the beige brigade & get many a raised eyebrow from our blue exterior {we live by the sea} to our deep red dining room accent wall & out apple-green accessorized lounge! I want my home to say that I am unafraid! Full of life, vibrancy & enthusiasm. With warmth & familiarity thrown in for comfort...That book looks like a feast of visual delights & an aesthetic treasure - thanks for sharing! {I'm not in the US but have a friend in texas that sends me any happy mail I win!}
ReplyDeleteI want my house to say that I'm exactly who I am. I don't care if everything is perfection personified. I do care that each piece is something I love. I love different items from different eras. I collect white ceramic pieces and Vintage Fisher Price people. They look fab together :)
ReplyDeleteI want people to walk into my house and feel right at home and that they can put their feet up and feel comfortable. I use lots of color in my house to make me happy and I want guests to feel just as happy in my home!
ReplyDeleteI want my house to say, "come on in", yes, vintage, thrift store finds, & "homeless" pieces can look beautiful again; to reflect my personality through my colors & designs of the whitest whites, hues of blues, silver accessories, & the cottage, shabby, coastal chic feel in every room. I want my home to flow with relaxation, but be fun enough to say "yes my 5 children do live here." Hope to win! :)
ReplyDeleteWish I could enter:( I love every single thing JA does and would love to win one of his books. Ah well- shopping trip to the bookstore, here we come:) Great giveway!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat I want my home to say about me is that I have good taste, keep my junk put away, and that it is a fun place for me, my boyfriend, and our young son. Bright and colorful and somewhere that I love for my friends to visit!
ReplyDeleteI collect things I LOVE....not things that are dyed to match and somehow it all works! I also want it to say "surprise" with a little unexpected detail, color or funky accessory!!
ReplyDeleteI want my home to say, "I care deeply that you are comfortable and happy here, but I don't care a bit if you like my fabulous and eclectic decor."
ReplyDeleteI want my house to say "This is a warm, cozy home that embraces the old, the eclectic, the legacy of my travels and brings nature indoors. A place of refuge and all are welcome."
ReplyDeleteI think I want my house to say that its home. I want people to want to touch the fabrics to see what they feel like. And that people want to take a closer look at things because it might not be exactly what they were expecting. And I want most of my house to be home made art and accessories made my own and unique. But I want to make sure that everyone that crosses that threashold will feel welcomed and comforted.
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm alone at home, there can be days that I don't really care what the state of my house is. I like things to be pretty and everything on their own places, but I often tend to be overwhelmed with all of my stuff and just let there be chaos !
ReplyDeleteWhen people come over, I want them to feel like they can freely walk around the house, maybe touch and lift up something or sit down, without feeling that they might break something here. I want this place to feel like home - a happy chic one !
Those pictures & the headlines of the books, they're so ..ME! I'm amazed that there even can be a book full of this kind of inspiration & decor. If fortune is not on my side on this one, I must find these books somewhere!
(oh and I'm not US resident!) so this was just a comment i guess hihih :)
ReplyDeleteI am a designer and find myself too undecided to commit to any color so my small 1940 Art Deco apartment is a cozy, tiny space that is practically colorless right now. I want my guests to feel welcome and comfortable in my tiny space, but worry that in it's current state it might say, "she's a designer?" so I am hoping to win one of these so I can take the plunge and commit to an accent color, I think it's just what I need!
ReplyDeleteWhen people enter our home I want them to instantly feel at-ease and comfortable. I want our home to be welcoming and for it to be full of little unique details about us as a family. Our house shows our unique sense of style that we have built together.
ReplyDeleteI want my house to share my love of travel and family.
ReplyDeleteI want my home to say "hey! I'm warm and friendly, come on in! I may be small, but I make up for it in personality and meaningful touches! Come hang out in my living room. Relax it up in my guest bedroom. And by all means, eat those cookies sitting on the kitchen counter!"
ReplyDeleteI want my home to be me in design form -- the dichotomy of my personality allows for bright colors and statement neutrals. A classic pottery barn sofa with a modern wing back chair. I want someone to know it's my home when they walk in -- a little serious and fun at the same time -- rather than seeing an immaculately designed place that doesn't look like me at all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting!
I die over these!!
ReplyDeleteI want my house to say that I am a fun-loving mom who can still find a way to be stylish & chic! Being a good mom is first priority to me.. and that means letting my kids play but it also means keeping an inspiring and creative home! It's the best job in the world!
:)Thanks so much for this opportunity!
Lara
As a designer I’ve found it’s very difficult to nail down my specific taste and style, because it’s constantly evolving! I’ve made a rule in the recent months that I will only fill my home with items either I find beautiful and love or things that serve a purpose. I did a ‘clean sweep’ after taking on this new mantra and I’m loving the uncluttered look so much more than when my house was filled with useless objects that were just trendy, matched, or displayed because I didn’t know what else to do with them. I want my home to be filled with unique details, to make people feel comfortable and at ease, but also have a touch of the unexpected! I adore JA and am crossing my fingers and toes that I win one of these awesome books!
ReplyDeleteI want my house to make people remember its different personality and beautiful colors long after they leave. :)
ReplyDeleteI want my house to be warm and welcoming and reflective of both my husband & I's personalities. We're a young couple with two kids under two, five cats, and a Chihuahua in a 1898 Folk Victorian/Queen Anne that we've been renovating for the past three years. I want our space to feel cohesive, yet lived in. I want our house to be one people want to visit for a while, one our kids are proud to bring their friends over to as they get older. I want function, but not without fun. I try really hard not to worry about resale or trends because that's not who we are.
ReplyDeleteI want our house to be our home, a part of our family as much as anyone else.
What a great give a way!
ReplyDeleteI want our home to truly represent my hubby and I. Relaxed and happy. Lot's of gray's and yellow's! Great decor, but comfortable and inviting to all. A place where our future kids WANT to be. A place where when we come home from our jobs we will at home =)
That's it in a nutshell
I want my home to say "Welcome, this is us. Enjoy and make yourselves comfy". I want my home to scream with color and vibrance and fun. A place that, from the front door, friends find a sense a familiarity and ease. Like us: we are laid back, easy going but absolutely love to have a good time and love to see beauty all around us.
ReplyDeleteLove this giveaway. Jonathan Alder is amazing!
Hopefully my home speaks of the things I enjoy & those I love. My interests are evident in the stacks of books, photos, colors & textiles that stimulate and inspire me. But amidst the decor is a basket of my dogs favorite toys, a space cleared for the cats prime view and my Papas favorite chair in the corner of the kitchen where he can read with the sun at his back.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to see your giveaway posted! I truly wish that my house reflects that my house is a "home," That my house is about my family and not just about "me," but also about my husband, my kids, my cat (maxiums) and our life over the last eleven years. A home is not made overnight ~ it is collected and I hope that shines through!
ReplyDelete~Thanks, Margaret
I want my home to say I am a fun, edgy, playful momma of two little folks, and two not so little dogs, who loves my husband, and jointly we all love having fun on the beach, and having company. Come on in and stay a while. :)
ReplyDeleteI want my home to express my different moods and personalities. I want my home to say in images what I can't say in words, but also be a nice relaxing place to live in and gain inspiration. A lot of times people decorate their houses to look "nice", but the best rooms tell a story, and thats what I want my home to be- I story of who I am, and what I aspire to be.
ReplyDeleteI want my home to show the world there is no set mold to live in or design in. If you love a piece of furniture or art, make it work, regardless of specific style. Items can come from a thrift store or a splurge of Trina Turk fabric, be open to everything. Fill your home with love in design and the love of others.
ReplyDeleteMy answer is: I want my home to say I'm capable of expressing myself through interior decorating and not afraid to go where others won't, because certain things make me happy and I want to surround myself with those things. Like my two bookshelves full of Japanese comics even though I'm a married woman. cristinajanusz@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI want my home to say that I am not a follower! When I was younger I decorated according to the latest trend. As I've gotten older,I have learned who I am and I decorate accordingly (even if it's not a style that is popular in Texas right now). I incorporated a lot of furniture and accessories that I inherited from my parents and grandparents and I love every bit of it :)
ReplyDeleteI want my home to say that it is a true paradise away from the craziness that can sometimes come from time to time in our own little worlds. A relaxing, cozy, stylish and decadent place. I want my home be a place where my kids, husband and family cant wait to get to because it simply is Home... Sweet... Home.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing give away! How I wish that I was a US blogger.. Sadly I am not and I know that the opportunity doesn't stretch all the way to Sydney Australia..
ReplyDeleteWishing all the entrants the best of luck!
Have a great rest of the week!
x Charlotta
I want my home to say that I am fun, relaxed, and warm, all while being put together and just plain pretty!
ReplyDelete~Kim (kimberly.simpson@gmail.com)
Southern warmth, "come on in"! A home should express what is within. My home is filled with warm, dark colors contrasted by stark white, lots of patina, nature, accented neutral and lots of art ! I can't get enough art. . . in every form . . . modern furniture pieces, paintings, sculpture, rugs, pillows, kaleidoscopes, books. Nature is central from warm color to elements of design: birds grace our walls from art from my children, to faux eggs in a bread bowl in my kitchen, needlepoint pillows on a living room sofa and white modern sculpture by stray dog designs. I studied the Japanese Tea Ceremony for my interior design thesis and love to frame views, bring nature into my interior environments, and celebrate the ritual of space and season.
ReplyDelete* What a lovely gesture~~~ the books look so scrumptious, Julie!
ReplyDeleteI'd HOPE friends n' family come thru our door, rather SURPRISED that it does NOT shout out "Lookie, lookie! We've lived all over the world!"... Because of my husband's 38 year career as an Army officer (now retired), that's a true statment, yes. But I am not one for "large" momentos... soooooo,
... I'd rather the treasures of our travels be slowly revealed to family & friends in small, unexpected new "experiences" for them... "things" that are "special" & indicative of a particular place that was "special" to both of us... unwrapped, if you will, like the best of the world's chocolates. The Swiss linen "napkin envelopes", holding our Belgian linen napkins at the breakfast table, lovely French dishes from a flea market, beautiful old staghorn flatware from Germany, old silver from Portobello Road, etc...
Maybe that's just one of many reasons why WE love our home so much, and the joy of SHARING it with others is so simply delightful!!! I HOPE that's what our guests truly feel, deep down inside, above & beyond the "open compliments"... that sincerity... the willingness to share...that unbeatable, genuine warmth saying "Welcome... Jim, 'dawg' and I are so glad you could come!".
Warmest blessings to all~ and may I say, what a lovely moment it was to pause & really THINK about your question... I enjoyed it! And I think I shall do this more often, too!
Best of the best to you,
Linda in AZ *

Let’s say Goldilocks stumbled into my house. Her first reaction should be “Oh my, how cozy, interesting and I wonder who dwells in this inviting,old-world space? She would cross the old worn carpet to the big red sofa, stopping along the way because some small detail would catch her eye. After feeling welcomed to linger in the lounge, tiredness overcomes her and she can’t decide which bedroom to retire in. They both look so dreamy and cozy, yet simple. The feather beds look like she could disappear into them. After a short rest, she leaves the house and runs into Little Red Riding Hood. To her she says,”Skip Grandma’s – go in there!” Grandma may not be there, but the same warmth and patina-ed space is within. You’ll love it and you’ll feel such safety and comfort against the wolf!
ReplyDeleteThat I have finally found myself and what a happy, peaceful, soulful, down to earth, eclectic mess I've turned out to be. :)
ReplyDeleteI want my home to not only reflect me, but also soothe me. I want it to be calm, stress-free and as cozy as possible. Not only do I want it to be filled with things that I love, but more importantly, I want it to be filled with people {and of course animals} that I love. I want it to feel welcoming, light, airy and comfortable. I want people to feel hospitality as they walk through the door from the decor alone, but mostly from the warmth and love of those who live under the roof.
ReplyDeleteI hope it says: Approachable Elegance.
ReplyDeleteMy home says: ME! And I LOVE that! I mean, it may not be your style, but it's definitely mine. And anyone who walks in my house knows it. In fact, people who know what my house looks like will always say, 'that looks like you,' when they see something that reminds them of my decor. I think that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jonathan Adler. LOVE. HIM. I. MUST. HAVE. THIS. BOOK.
(Imagine saying this in the attitude of a "go-for-it" speech on a podium): I want my home to say that I AM a proud nerd who believes her rubik's cube is an excellent accessory and YES my grandmother's vintage chair is what brings me most happiness and YES I DO love the color peacock blue and yes, I love the marriage of clean right angles with vintage quirky curves and YES I think skull shapes can be chic accessories and I may have a SLIGHT closet obsession with anything striped and ANY type of chandelier even if it's made from doorknobs(ooh, side note, make quirky chandelier from doorknobs) and this IS me and YES you can stay as long as you wish. So grab a Snuggle, kick off your sneaks, pour yourself a glass of pinot and stay a while!!
ReplyDeleteCozy and confident.
ReplyDeleteI want my house to shout, HAPPY FAMILY lives here!

I want my house to say elegant but livable. I want everyone to love my house but I also want them to feel comfortable in my house and not be afraid to sit on my furniture!
ReplyDeleteI want my home to say, "This person is Fearless! Loving! Creative! Nutty! Caring and Inviting!" I want it to be a place where everyone feels inspired to be as much of themselves as they can be and more!
ReplyDeleteI want my house to show the parts of me that others may not have realized; I love color and beauty and simplicity :)
ReplyDeleteI want my home to show that I don't take myself too seriously. I love mixing patterns and colors, modern and traditional to get a vibe that is totally me!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this giveaway! :)

ReplyDeleteI want my home to feel happy. I want people to come inside the door and just want to look around at everything and feel joy. I want fresh bright colors and happy fun accent pieces! I want it to express my fun happy go lucky personality! Great books!
ReplyDeleteI want my home to say that I am content and thankful, and that I find joy in the simple things of life.
ReplyDeleteI'm Korean but I want my home to say that I'm a Chinoiserie-a-holic. I love the old-school glamour that chinois design exudes. Old empress paintings, quan yin figurines.....Asian decadence at its best. :)
ReplyDeleteI want my home to say and show that "I love my life". My treasures are showcased in each room and I love to tell their stories. I always make room for more, but I want everything in my home to mean something and exude happiness.
ReplyDeleteI want my home to be reflective of both my husbands and my style. Chic and sophisticated pieces but still have a warm and comfortable feel. I grew up in a home that had white walls & white carpet - I don't want guest to feel like they can't take their shoes off. Also, lots of pictures. We have framed pictures throughout our home - it shows that we are family and friend oriented but find tasteful ways to display them.
ReplyDeleteI want my home to be a comfortable oasis. Everything is so hectic with school and work, so when I come home I want to be somewhere beautiful and comfortable. I want my home to be bright and colorful while still being sophisticated. My parents home is so many different shades of brown which is boring. I also want my home to show how I love so many different cultures and time periods. I want each room to have a different feel, but to still be over all cohesive.
ReplyDeleteI want my home to say "Come as you are. Be who you are. And know that you are welcome always."
ReplyDeleteI want my place to say that I'm interesting, irreverent, fun, and a little bit weird!
ReplyDeleteI want my house to say lived in, loved, insatiable, quirky with a fun yet serious side.
ReplyDeleteI want my house to say...this has to be Francine's house.Once you have met me and eventually end up in my house, I want it to speak for itself as a reflection of who I am.I do not care about periods, style, fashion. In my house you will love the perfect imperfections of life. The materials and colors I stole from nature, everypiece has a story as I make a point to travel once a year in discovery of the world and immerse myself in culture, a french modern but comfortable sofa, handmade tiles from Mexico, an Interieurs Bamboo cocktail table, side chairs from Afganistan, modern artwork on the wall by spanish, german, vietnamese and chinese artists, hand made lighting by Jose Esteves, artifacts from New Guinee, Laos, Bhutan, India, Senegal all in their authentic colors....Also, a great kitchen and large dining table for endless dinners where conversation flows and books, books, books. Filled bookshelves in every room, categorized by travel, art, photography, history, gardening, classic, contemporary american novels and of course music.I want my friends and guest to feel so at home that they will never leave. And of course bedrooms and bathrooms with all the amenities and touches of comfort so that friends can decide to spend the night on spur of the moment. Wake up to a great breakfast and off for a walk in the woods.....
ReplyDeleteLovely giveaway. My entire house is grey and white, I have been adding colour in each room. It does make a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteKeeping my fingers crossed for this :)
xx
callie
oops, just saw the question.
ReplyDeleteI want my house to say "Come in and enjoy your self!!"
It needs to be cosy and comfortable. Full of happiness! I started with a neutral palette of grey and white and have been building in colour as I go.
xx

I want my home to be fun and never boring. My husband works out of town and every time he comes home he walks around to see what I have changed. I'm not afraid of color or to mix things up a bit, he never knows what to expect and I think he enjoys it as much as I do.
ReplyDeleteI want my house to say, "A vibrant character lives here...and she'd like you to feel inspired and at home as well!"
ReplyDeleteMy home wants to welcome everyone, big or little, and have them want to stay & see/feel much, much more. Then, when they leave [always hoping to return soon], I want them to wonder why they feel sooooo comfortable & think about the quirkiness of the colors, textures & scents. That's what my home wants.
ReplyDeletei want my home to say that i am playful, cute, loving, creative, and colorful.
ReplyDelete
