Current Obsession: The Chesterfield Sofa
The Chesterfield sofa has been around for centuries and it's no wonder! This may quite possibly be the most versatile sofa out there. Whether the style of your space is modern, masculine, feminine, traditional, glamorous, coastal, or any other style, the chesterfield is bound to fit right in to your decor. Upholster it in leather for a relaxed, traditional or masculine feel. Upholster in velvet for a glamorous or Hollywood regency twist. Cover it in a white textured linen for a sophisticated, feminine look. Whatever fabric you choose, make sure it's solid. Prints can look messy and take away from the beautiful tufting. How do you feel about this sofa style? Please share your thoughts!

julie, i'm with you, that sofa style is like the little black dress you need to own and keep in your closet. this sofar will be classically beautiful forever and i'd love one similar to the gold-ish velvet one you featured (the one with the purple walls). that style would be my pick, slightly shorter in length and super soft. maybe in a color like wine, or mushroom. i'd love it! have a great day...
ReplyDeleteI love these sofas and my fave would have to be charcoal grey flannel or linen :)
ReplyDeleteA flaxen linen would be absolutely exquisite!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with the chesterfield too.!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have two Chesterfield Sofas that I absolutely adore. They were hand-made in England and we ordered them sight unseen. We bought our house in January and they didn't arrive until April... so our living room was very unfurnished for a few months. I was nervous that they wouldn't be exactly what we wanted... but they are perfect. And so comfortable too! Very much worth the wait. You can see pics of my Chesterfields here:

Julie, you are so right! I have always adored chestys! I'm so excited as I'm actually reupholstering a gorgeous little chesterfield at the moment as part of my training as an Upholsterer and it's looking lovely. Thanks for your brilliant posts....Dawn x

Chesterfields are pure "art in function" & I spend my days restoring these beautiful hand made Victorian Antiques......recovering them in Vintage & Antique Fabrics, Contemporary Wools, Tartans, Cowhides, vintage tablecloths & curtains, anything goes....they look fabulous & are just as comfortable as they look
ReplyDeleteLove that blue and white look

ReplyDeleteI have been eyeing the Anthropolgie sofa for some time now. I love everything about the Chesterfield sofa. Thank you, you helped me realize how much I do need one of these lovely in my home.
ReplyDeleteMy proudest craigslisting moment was getting a cognac-colored leather Chesterfield for free. It lived in our first apartment for a year and is currently on loan to a friend since it's too enormous to fit in our current apartment. I'm waiting for the day I have enough space to devote an entire room to it and bookshelves in true gentleman's-library fashion!

one of my favorite sofa styles, i absolutely love it in a bright, bold color. and--when the time comes to invest in one, i think the fact that is has been such a classic for centuries is quite reassuring.
