I often get emails from readers asking for design advice on everything from the perfect gray paint color to furniture recommendations...to everything in between. While I can't always answer every question, I try my best to reply with a solution or suggestion. Instead of keeping this info between me and the reader, I thought it would be fun to do a weekly feature where I answer design questions in a blog post! Kind of like a "Dear Abby" column for design and decorating advice :)
Q. I really want to buy a few pillows from your store, but I'm worried they may be too much for my room. I'm not afraid of color, texture, or design, I love it all. I live the 'more is more' philosophy to the fullest. The pillows I'm thinking of are the ampersand hook, or the at sign hook, the percent hook, or the San Francisco hook. If any of those work, can I order more than one? Any advice you could give would be spectacular! - Tasha
A. First off, I love your living room - the striped accent wall and the ceiling mount light fixture are fantastic! What a great space :) Accent pillows are an easy and inexpensive way to really refresh the decor in a room and I've come up with two different pillow combinations that might work for you...
Option A: Currently you have solid blue pillows on the sofa. I would add one or two of the (1) New York Hook Pillows to pull in the rusty red wall color which will add warmth and tie everything together nicely. I would also add one or two of the (2) Tanala Pillows from Crate & Barrel - the horizontal striped pattern is made of rows of silken ribbons which add texture and offset the vertical striped pattern on the wall. To add a fun accent, the (3) Percent Hook Pillow is bold and unexpected.
Option B: Adding one or two of the San Francisco Hook Pillows to your existing solid blue pillows will create a bright and fresh update. Throw in a couple of the Tanala Pillows (mentioned above) for added texture. The Ampersand Hook Pillow is a fun and unexpected touch mixed in with the other pillows.
Do you have a design dilemma you need solved? Email me your question, along with photos (if applicable) and I'll consider featuring your question / answer in a future post!
Hi Julie! Love the advice! All the pillows you suggested will really help the room pop. I'm excited! Thanks!
