Wallpapering Outside the Box

I've been a big fan of wallpaper for years - especially bold prints and patterns. I think it's one of the easiest and best ways to add drama and interest to a room. Traditionally, wallpaper is used on one or more walls in a space, but to save a little time and money, wallpaper can be used in small doses and still create a big impact.
A simple way to add pattern to this room with a strip of floral wallpaper. Notice the framed prints on either side are of the same wallpaper.

Use a decorative paper on a window wall and accent it with solid drapery panels.

Forget papering the entire bathroom and apply a strip of your favorite print to create a bold focal point.

I love how they accented this small wall with a colorful print. It makes the neutral chest really stand out and adds a cheerful element to the room.

Strips of wallpaper were applied above the bed for a headboard effect.

Instead of hanging a piece of art or mirror above the fireplace, use a decorative wallpaper, like this sophisticated floral print.

  1. This is a really inspiring post! I too think that just a little wallpaper goes a long way, plus it's a really inexpensive solution when you're decorating on a budget. These photos prove that just an accent can be more interesting than wallpapering an entire room. Plus you can change your mind and do something new in a while!

  6. Gorgeous idea! I don't have a headboard and this would work wonders on the boring wall back there!

  7. Great post! I love wallpaper and think it adds so much to a space, but it can get costly. Really, you only need a strip of it and it can be a highlight of a room at an affordable price.

  8. I like the idea of adding just a bit of wallpaper on accent walls too. I've been toying with the idea because it seems like a good option for someone who has a problem with commitment like me(!)

  10. * Hi! I did something similar once, only I had it framed w/ crown molding so it looked like a headboard... (we were living in Germany, in a house that wasn't ours, so I took a few "shortcuts" to "get it right & NOT PERMANENT", & I must admit the molding really finished it off nicely!) Has anyone out there tried it that way? Thanks for a fun blog! Linda *

  11. Wow, all those photos are so inspiring! I love how simple it is for wallpaper to completely change the look of a room. The yellow, white & black combination in the first photo is definitely my favorite-love it!
