Today I feel stuck - I've been trying to work on two different residential projects but am having inspiration overload...so many ideas spinning around in my head, yet I can't focus on anything. Nothing is making sense and all I'm feeling is overwhelmed! Isn't it funny when some days the creativity flows like a river and on others, it's a like a dried up creek? What do you do when you're feeling this way? How do you get past the "writer's block" or "creative barrier?" I can't even think of an interesting topic to post about! So while I'm sitting here at my desk, waiting for the light to go on, I've been getting lost on the website FFFFOUND! (no pun intended), where you can view incredible photo galleries of all sorts of subjects (kinda like flickr). These photos were so magical and beautiful - I want to be the girl in the first photo (or the one taking a nap in the bathtub, fully clothed). Hopefully tomorrow will be a better, more productive day.
I hate those days. It's like an out of body experience sometimes. Everything feels a little cloudy. There's so much swirling inside your head and you can't seem to grasp onto any of it. Usually I do exactly what you're doing. I LOOK for inspiration. I think sometimes we forget that we are largely responsible for our own inspiration. So keep looking. You'll find it.
ReplyDeletewow, so strange you say that, my january has felt like this with exception of a few days, i swear it's the bleak weather clouding my creative brain. thanks for the link to this fabulous site though, very fun and imaginitive, definitely a useful tool for ideas from time to time. i wish i was close by to help you out, i'm sure i'd learn alot working with you...i'd do it for free! :)
ReplyDeletethat's sweet robin! i wish you were close by too - you could take a break from that awful weather!
ReplyDeleteI hate days like that, but these photos sure do help. I love the photo of the girl with the tulip - so magical and lovely perspective. I hope things get better!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure tomorrow will be a better day, we all have these kind of days. I tend to listen to music, to clear my head, a little jazz relaxes me and that source of inspiration seems to follow. SMILE!! xoxo:)
ReplyDeleteWhat dreamy photos!!
Oof---i've been having the same trouble lately---i think it's common in january/february to feel less than inspired. after the rush of the holidays, everything just seems a little less shiny and bright, and all i can see is the long slog until spring comes. the hardest thing to do is be patient with yourself, especially when you're on a deadline! But I always find that stepping back and doing something totally unrelated often gives my brain the chance it needs to let creativity percolate...
ReplyDeleteIf you would like to share some of that creativity with me, I would be more than happy to take a load off of you. : ) Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I make a list. Maybe that will help for you also.
ReplyDeleteI can empathize. It's those over stimulated moments you want to figure out how to come up for air!
ReplyDeleteHi, I think I might've commented here before since I love your blog and am a big fan of your shared quotes. Anyway, I'm a professional writer trained to work on tight deadlines and thought I'd share my tricks for breaking through writer's block. It always seems that I get writer's block just when I want to create something different or when the material calls for special treatment (ie. a year-long project). Like others, I, too, seek to relax through music while perusing work I find inspiring, in my case books or articles/essays by writers I admire. And then, I just force myself to write, even if I feel it's horrible. Eventually, I find the right phrasing that kicks off the kind of writing I really want. So, I guess, in short: relax, seek inspiration and then just do it. (r8ermom)
ReplyDeletewow - thank you everyone for your positive comments and ideas. i appreciate the feedback and feel much better :)
ReplyDeletelove the photography! thanks for sharing your find.
