Domino Closing it's Doors
If you haven't already heard, Conde Nast is ceasing publication of Domino magazine and it's website. The final issue will be published in March 2009.“This decision to cease publication of the magazine and its website is driven entirely by the economy,” Mr. Townsend said. “Although readership and advertising response was encouraging in the early years, we have concluded that this economic market will not support our business expectations.” I am beyond depressed by this news! Domino is hands-down my favorite design magazine and I go to their website constantly for inspiration. I never thought I'd be so upset over a magazine going out of business, but I am really bummed. So get in your last few fixes of Domino and enjoy it while it lasts, because it will be gone by Spring :( What other magazines and/or websites do you look to for design inspiration?
I've been visiting your tres belle blog for some time now, but I'm finally going to comment! Domino can't go away! I've been addicted to it since its inception. I have stacks of Domino pages just because it makes me happy to look at them. I wonder if they'll keep some version of the website.
ReplyDeletethis is a sad day!
ReplyDeleteIt is my favorite as well, i even went to 5 stores in a blizzard in december to find a copy. They sell out at every store in chicago, i don't think it was readership since the magazine is so hard to find here in chicago. I am ever more sad that the website is going too! You'd think that they would at least keep that going for awhile???
So I guess we've got to go on the website and collect whatever we can!
ReplyDeleteSigh, It is a sorry state of affairs! I love Aussie homes mags - Vogue Living, Real Living and Inside Out. And then there's LivingETC in the UK ... oh, and Elle Decor from the UK. Then you get to the French mags which are beautiful (but a little hard to read when you don't speak French)
ReplyDeleteI feel so weepish :(
ReplyDeleteThere goes my little ray of sunshine amongst all the bills and junk mail in my mail box. Boo- Hoo. I am so sad to see it go... (You'd think they would have stopped sending renewal offers though?) Hopes of finding a new publication just as good one fine day... Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteso sad to hear this. i love domino.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Domino closing it's proverbial doors is super-sad. And BabyStyle has gone under too (which was my favorite place to buy unique and stylish baby stuff!) Don't know what's happening in the world.
ReplyDeleteAt this point though, I mostly look at sites like yours online, shows on HGTV, etc, and catalogues from my favorite stores (like West Elm, CB2, Anthropologie) to get ideas. It's sad that those are my best sources these days.
