***belle maison give-away***

For today's "giving back" Tuesdays post, I wanted to give something away to one lucky visitor/reader of my blog. I recently did a post about upcoming design books that have not yet been released and received a ton of comments about the new Domino Book of Decorating. Everyone is so excited about this book (myself included), that I decided to give someone a chance to win it! All you have to do is leave me a comment answering one question: what do you feel is the most important room in a home and why?
Thank you for participating! I really value your input and comments. Good luck to all :)
The winner will be announced Friday Night (September 19th).

  1. hmm, i would have to say the dining room is the most important. no matter how hectic life gets that's the place where we gather and talk, laugh, and sometimes even eat good food.

  2. The kitchen with a family area, your heart & soul is fed with love, laughter and food. When I was a little girl my mother would invite my friends over and we would assemble and decorate carmel apples for halloween, cookies for christmas and eggs at easter. we are friends to this day!

  3. My bedroom - it's the place I can retreat to when life is complicated. It's a place where I can relax and be simply who I am.

  4. Great giveaway! The most important room to me is a tie between the bedroom and bathroom. Apparently we spend half our lives in the bathroom - so why not spend it well with soft and good smelling items? The bedroom is also a place of comfort and joy - you get to relax and SLEEP! Thanks for this question.

  5. For us the most important room is the family/tv room. It is a cozy space and so comfortable for lounging. Often we don't even turn the TV on and just relax together, read, talk, catch up on the day, play boardgames or cards, have snacks and drinks. It's a comfortable room.

  6. The most important room in my house is my kitchen. When I was growing up my mom used to make all of us kids help with dinner every night and while in the kitchen washing vegetables and setting the table we would have some of our most in depth conversations. We talked about everything!

Now that I am married, my husband will normally pour us each a glass of wine when he gets home from work and so we both have a glass of wine while I finish making dinner and talk about our days and what it going on.

It seems that any time we have people over, the kitchen is where they always congregate! Laugher, fun, and food all in one room!

I truly hope that when I have children they will be as open and comfortable with me as I was with my mom - and that they too will cherish the time spent in the kitchen together!

  7. In this house it's ALL about the kitchen. My husband and I cook together most nights and we often have friends drop in for dinner, drinks and late night board games. Weekends find us lingering with our laptops over coffee at the kitchen table. Even when we're not in there you can usually find something delicious in the stove or oven, and a kitty curled up on a chair under the table. All of my favorite things in that kitchen!

  8. I think the most important room is the bedroom. It's a retreat, it's a little nest where all the worries of the day go away. I surround myself with the things I love most and big fluffy pillows and blankets. Mmmm, I want to go there now!

  9. The most important room in our house is our kitchen. That is where we come home and discuss our days while making dinner. I think this is the best time of the day.

  10. For me it's the bedroom. It's my place to rest, for refuge, to dream. So it must be comfortable. It reflects me. If my bedroom doesn't give me that comfort, how can I start working on other areas of the house? So, for me my bedroom is the most important room.

  12. i'd have to say, for me it is the bathroom. it is where utility and design must meet in order to feel comfortable (even more so than the kitchen) and when done right, can turn into so much more than a bathroom. it can be a spa or retreat, and the possibilities for design are endless, especially because cost of design can be kept somewhat low, as it is usually the smallest room in the house. and functionality is the key, because it is the most important room to clean.

(i judge most restaurant interiors by the way their bathrooms are designed)

  13. Great giveaway Julie! I have to say the most important room is the master bedroom. It tends to be the most private room in the house (at least I don't have too many guests enter), and therefore can be the most personal. I surround myself with cherished items that bring me joy. It needs to be both soothing at the end of a long day, as well as invigorating when you wake up. That is a very difficult balance to achieve. It is my sanctuary, my haven, my own private island.

  14. The kitchen is such a warm and inviting place where food brings people together, so to me, it's the most important place in a house.

  15. What a great idea!!!! i think the living room is the most important room because that is where I spend so much time. That is the room where I clock in many hours watching Lost and Sex in the City re-runs, read, welcome and enterain friends...it is also the first impression visitors get of your home.

  16. Guess I'm with everyone else -- for us, it's definitely the kitchen. It's where I feed and nurture not only our bodies, but our relationships, too. Lately, I really enjoy having my nephews over and cooking with them. They're so curious about food and it's fun to have someone to cook with.

And at the same time, I really enjoy cooking for my son as well. It's just a happy, nurturing place.

  17. I'm torn, because I think the kitchen is most important as far as function and being the center of the home. But the bedroom is the sanctuary and a resting spot, so it's an essential space, too. So...I guess I'd have to go with the kitchen, just because so much life goes on in that room.

  18. FUN giveaway... can't wait to see the book!
I would say the kitchen is the heart of the home... but I'm going to pick our family room instead... it is the place we come together to cuddle up on the big sectional and watch movies!

  20. my pick for favorite room is my sons bedroom. since he was before he was born, and many times after i've painted, decorated, watched toys and books go from toddler to teenager. that room has a special feel. i've walked into that room countless times, to check on his as an infant, held him while he cried, tucked him in at night while reading "one more book" and now wake him for highschool in the morning against his wishes. i love to walk into his room when he's not there just to be there, to see now how he arranges his shelves, books and adjust his framed four leaf clovers he's been lucky enough to find. so my favorite room isn't even one of my own, but his...it's the most special.

  22. the kitchen....everyone gathers there to talk and wash up and cook together. my kids can work at the table or sit on the countertops and help with meals. No tv distractions, but good music and comfy seating - it's the place to be.

  25. Well to me the most IMPORTANT room is my office. It is where I can create and connect with the outside world via my laptop! The decor in my office brightens my day and inspires me. I have 2 large windows so the office is very bright and looks out to my private backyard.

    Thanks!

  26. hmmm...this is a great question. for me it's a tie between the kitchen and bedroom. my hubby & i love to cook & entertain and eventhough our kitchen is teeny, tiny, we spend a lot of time in there catching up at the end of the day. and, my favorite element in our whole house is the bay window in the kitchen. the kitties sit up there all day and watch the neighborhood happenings. it's a great spot.

then there's the bedroom, well that is my sanctuary and the first place i think to go when i need a reprieve. it's peaceful, calm, and relaxing. we keep the bedroom slider open all the time so the cool breeze can filter through the room, and the drapery blows in the wind. heavenly.

  27. I would def have to say the kitchen. It is where everyone congregates. Food for the body and food for soul are dished up. Life happens in the kitchen.
